How much does a business website cost?

A business website is an important investment. The cost of your website is determined by various factors such as desired features, required functionality, and the appropriate development platform. We develop your business website as a sales and marketing tool, tailored to meet your specific business objectives.

Think of building your website as you would think of building a house. The cost to build your house is based on your specific requirements in terms of square footage, number of rooms, upgrades, construction materials, etc. Much like building a house, your website is built based on your specific business needs and marketing goals. Depending on your requirements, you should expect to invest at least $4,000.

What’s the difference between Drupal and WordPress? Which one is better?

Drupal and WordPress are two of the most widely-used open source platforms used today. Drupal, actually a development framework, is the more powerful and technically advanced of the two, capable of supporting large, data-driven sites. Drupal is very versatile, offering unlimited possibilities for customization. Developing a Drupal site is a more complicated process. Because of the advanced programming required, Drupal sites typically cost more than WordPress sites.

WordPress, a very popular development platform, is a suitable choice for many small to medium-sized businesses. WordPress works especially well for most blog-focused, media-rich sites that don’t require large or complex database structures. WordPress offers abundant choices in terms of look, feel and functionality. In most cases, WordPress sites are the more affordable option because they don’t require the same level of intensive programming as a Drupal site.

It’s not a question of which one is better, but which one is better for meeting your website needs. In recommending the appropriate platform for your website, we consider your business and marketing objectives as well as desired website features, functionality, overall complexity, intended use, long-term needs, e-commerce requirements and budget. We also look at the level of customization and the type of programming required to best meet your objectives.

What is a responsive website?

A responsive website is one that automatically resizes and adjusts to conform to the device on which it’s being viewed, whether it’s a laptop, desktop, tablet or mobile phone. Having a responsive site is necessary to providing a consistent user experience across all platforms, ensuring that your customers will see the same content, properly displayed, regardless of the device they’re using.

More people are now using their mobile phones rather than their desktop computers to perform online searches, according to Google. What this means is that having a responsive site is no longer an option. It’s a must in order for your business to stay competitive and have a strong web presence. All business owners should be aware that Google actually ranks responsive sites higher in search results because they provide a better user experience. To that end, we design all of our websites as responsive sites.

What does the website development process entail?

We develop your website as a sales and marketing tool – one that generates leads, provides your customers with useful information, effectively displays your products and services, increases your online visibility, and differentiates you from your competition.

Developing a robust website involves thoughtful planning and execution. We work in partnership with you to create the website that is right for your business. We lay the groundwork first by learning about your customers, your marketing needs, and your business goals before we begin building your website.

The process varies based on the technical requirements and complexity of your website and can take from 6 – 24 weeks from start to finish. A typical website project is comprised of five phases:

  • Planning and research phase – We learn about your company, your business needs and your website goals. We work through your website’s technical, content and design requirements.
  • Design phase – We create mock-ups and wireframes that communicate the look, feel, layout, architecture and navigation of your site.
  • Development phase – We work on the custom development, building and programming of your site as well as perform rigorous testing on all functionality and across all major browsers.
  • Training and content phase – We train you on how to manage and update your new website, enabling you to populate your website with content. More testing is done to ensure all systems are working properly and your site is displaying correctly.
  • Launch phase – Final pre-launch testing and review are done. Any issues are resolved, and upon getting final approval from you, we launch your new site.

What is a CMS?

A CMS (content management system) is the software application that allows you to create and manage your website’s content. CMSs are designed to be user-friendly and don’t require any knowledge of HTML programming.

Simple tools give you the ability to easily add, update, delete, publish and organize your web pages without having to worry about messing up the look of your site. Templates within the CMS contain pre-determined styling and layout elements that are automatically applied when you create or update content, ensuring that design, fonts, colors and overall “look” remain consistent throughout your web pages.

With a CMS, you can manage your site from anywhere you have internet access, enabling you to make changes at a moment’s notice and keep your content up-to-date and accurate. A CMS offers the necessary flexibility and control that lets you respond to changes in your business or product offerings and allows your website to keep pace with your company’s growth.
